Inspecting Unsafe Structures

This course familiarizes the student with the practice of inspecting unsafe structures and administration and enforcement of the 2015 International Property Maintenance Code and State of TN Slum Clearance Statute.  Students will be guided through the process of determining the nature and severity of violations, whether or not the structure should be reported as unsafe, which departments need to be notified, if the structure is at risk for fire or other life safety considerations, and how the unsafe condition can be resolved.  Attention will also be given to the legal aspects of inspecting unsafe structures, steps to take in documentation, and inspector protocol in court proceedings.
